About the Committee

The Transgender & Non-Binary Committee is committed to building, supporting, and uniting gender-diverse people within the European LGBTQIA+ aviation community.

Our goals are:

- Developing a comprehensive resource hub featuring best practices, educational materials, and essential information for transgender and non-binary people in aviation.

- Working tirelessly with government agencies, industry leaders, and the aviation community to advance the rights and needs of transgender and non-binary people in aviation.

- Providing a safe and confidential space for peer-to-peer support, fostering a sense of belonging and understanding.

Leading the Charge

The EPAN Trans & Non-Binary Committee is at the forefront of several key initiatives aimed at creating a more inclusive aviation industry:

- Advocating for streamlined medical application procedures for people diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria.

- Supporting aviation professionals in using their chosen names and pronouns in the workplace, without requiring formal ID changes.

- Encouraging airlines to adopt inclusive uniform policies that reflect the diversity of their workforce.

Supporting Transgender/Non-Binary Pilots

One common question we receive is about the process of starting Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) as a pilot. With standardized EASA guidelines still unavailable, we are actively advocating for their creation and collaborating with the Aeromedical Committee to:

- Develop a comprehensive database outlining the HRT approval processes in each EASA state.

- Compile a list of Aviation Medical Examiners (AMEs) who are knowledgeable about and supportive of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Hi Everyone

I’m Alex, a transgender woman and private pilot. I’m on the EPAN Board and the Transgender & Non-Binary Committee, working to ensure a welcoming aviation for all gender-diverse people across the EU.

I know firsthand the stress and uncertainty that can come with unclear guidelines, particularly for flight crew. It can feel like a constant struggle. But I’ve been there, and I successfully renewed my Class 1 medical through the Italian Civil Aviation Authority. I’m here to offer my support and guidance, and to let you know that it’s possible to navigate this process successfully.

Whether you’re a pilot, dreaming of becoming one, or navigating your gender identity, EPAN is here to support you. We’re committed to ensuring that all pilots, regardless of gender, have equal opportunities to fly. We understand the challenges of the medical process and are dedicated to advocating for your rights.
